Architecture Studio III
The objective for this assignment was to create a pool house on the Platte River that responds to its environment while addressing the needs of a building requiring public and private spaces.
I want this building to evoke a sensory experience that can only be cultivated when a built space draws natural elements into it, blurring the line between.
Across an unassuming wall, a linear overhead mass draws you through before meeting the smell and sound of water trickling down. It directs a straight path forward, flowing underfoot toward the stairs leading into the river. There's a sense of openness as you look out over the river and park. The sound of the trickling water intensifies at the top of the stairs as it trickles back down into the river below. At the bottom of the stairs, you'll notice the river's edge is suddenly behind you just before you pan around and greet the river coming toward you. You grab your coffee and find a spot along the stepping stairs and notice a step that says "Average height of the Platte River during April," its July, so you sit down on it and notice a sign on a lower stair saying "Average height during July" kissing the edge of the river.
